More that 1,000 people from Webuye East from three wards; Maraka, Mihuu and Ndivisi have received food donations availed by the County government in conjunction the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce Bungoma chapter to get them through the tough times posed by the Coronavirus pandemic. Talking to West Media after distributing food which included 10Kg maize flour packets, bar soap, sugar and packets of tea leaves, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Mr John Wafula said they are planning to reach out to more than 6,000 vulnerable households across the County and that they are targeting the elderly and people living with disabilities and those who were affected by the floods due to the ongoing rains.
He said that they will move across the 45 wards of Bungoma County to make sure each and every vulnerable family gets something to eat although it may not be enough and called on well wishers and other non governmental organisations to come in hand and support the County government of Bungoma as the government alone may not be able to provide for the many affected families at this time. He assured those who have not received aid to be patient as they put measures in place to receive more foodstuff to support them. On her part, the Mihuu area MCA Violet Makhanu said she is privy to information that the food is not enough for every household but urged those who’ve received surplus to support those who lack as the County government moves to avail aid for them.
She further urged residents to be vigilant as the Covid-19 continues spreading, saying they should avoid interacting with truck drivers. She appealed to the to maintain high levels of hygiene and make sure they adhere to the regulations given by the Ministry of Health. Those who benefited from the donation applauded the good gesture and the leaders for their effort. However, they said the food aid isn’t enough and called on well wishers to chip in.
