Leaders from Nandi County led by Governor Stephen Sang have called for justice after the brutal murder of a cobbler who was shot by a police officer at Lessos on Thursday, leading to protests. Addressing the public at Lessos center, Sang along with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and some MCAs questioned the integrity of police officers, citing cases of police brutality meted on innocent citizens, noting that hey are using fire arms to cause harm instead of providing security.
They further urged the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the matter. The deceased was shot dead while trying to convince the police officers to release a boda boda rider who had been arrested at the road block. Attempts by the police to bar the irate crowd from further causing further damage proved futile, leading to the fatal shooting of 2 more people after the residents had set the OCS’ premises on fire. The Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai ordered the arrest and immediate suspension of the police officer who shot the cobbler.
