West Pokot residents living along the border of West Pokot County and Uganda have been asked to be on high alert after three Coronavirus cases were confirmed at Amudat which borders Pokot North sub county.
Pokot North sub county deputy county commissioner Martin Mbae said the closure of the border by the Ugandan authorities restricts West Pokot residents from crossing over to Uganda hence asked locals to refrain from interactions with Ugandan counterparts.
“Residents might be mingling with people from Uganda using panya routes but they have been informed properly on the dangers they pose if they sneak to Uganda and back,” he said.
He said most of the locals are farming in Uganda and within three weeks three people have been quarantined in Uganda after they were found trespassing as they were going to their farms.
He noted that since three cases have been recorded at Amudat, Kenyans should keep away from Amudat town and avoid cross border trade until the Coronavirus pandemic ends.
West Pokot Health CEC Jackson Yaralima said most of West Pokot residents buy their products from Amudat market which puts locals at high risk of contracting Coronavirus.
Amudat district area member of parliament Christopher Akorkimoi said the three have a history of travel to Turkana county after they went to buy goats.
“When they came back they were intercepted at the border, after being tested they were found to be positive,” he said.
