Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been expelled from the ANC party. The decision was arrived at during a special National Delegates meeting that happened on Friday morning, where a resolution by the party and the NEC to expel Malala was ratified and adopted, with the Senator accused of being disloyal to the party and the party leader.
The party cited the utterances made by the Senator during an ODM rally before the Kibra by election in 2019, “Which prejudiced the integrity and reputation of the ANC party.” Moreover, Malala had been invited to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee but he declined.
The party has also adopted a resolution to extend the terms of party officials, “The special meeting of the National Governing Council have full cognisance of the peculiarity of the Covid-19 situation,” the party noted, adding that the election of new party officials has been postponed, pending the easing of the Covid-19 situation.
