A section of MPs from West Pokot County have come to the defence of Chief Justice David Maraga calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta to respect the Judiciary by obeying court orders and appointing judges to allow the many cases in courts to be heard.
This comes a few days after Chief Justice David Maraga made his frustrations known to the media through a presser that had some hard-hitting words directed at President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The CJ also lamented at how he has sought audience with President Kenyatta but to no avail.
Maraga blamed the President for disregarding court orders, terming it a recipe for anarchy.
Kacheliba Member of Parliament Mark Lomunokol and his Sigor Counterpart Peter Lochakapong defended the CJ’s recent sentiments on the head of state frustrating the Judiciary.
The leaders who spoke in Kacheliba said that many cases are still in the Courts and the President should do the noble thing and appoint the judges.
Lomunokol noted that the President was on a revenge mission after the 2017 elections were nullified by the Judiciary. “We heard the President say that they shall revisit. That’s exactly what he is doing,” he said.
The legislator called on every arm of government to respect each other. On his part, Lochakapong said that the CJ’s remarks should be taken seriously.
Lochakapong urged the President to obey the rule of law and adhere to court orders, adding that the President should lead by example.
