473 more people have tested positive for the Coronavirus in Kenya, with the number of cases now at 9,448, after 6,979 samples were tested within the last day. The cumulative number of tests conducted so far are 206,584. Out of the 473 cases, 468 are Kenyans while 5 are foreigners, with 324 being males and 149 females. The youngest case for the second day running is a 1-year old child while the oldest patient is 90 years old.
42 Counties now have reported cases, with Nairobi County leading in new cases with 316, followed by Mombasa County with 43 cases. Kiambu County has 25 cases, Machakos County 23, Busia County 21, Kajiado County 12, Migori County 8, Uasin Gishu County 5, Kisumu County 4, Kilifi County 3, Nakuru has 3 cases. Lamu County has 3 cases, Taita Taveta 2, Marsabit, Kericho, Trans Nzoia, Turkana , Uasin Gishu and Laikipia Counties have 1 case each.
Speaking on Friday during the Covid-19 briefing in Mombasa, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said Kenya has made significant progress in dealing with the virus, leading to the gradual reopening of the economy, However, as articulated by President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier this week, the opening of the country does not in any way suggest that we have now contained the spread of the virus.” He added that the reopening was due to the fact that if Kenyans follow the government guidelines the disease can be tackled.
