Bondo Sub County Police Commander Anthony Juma Wafula who died of Coronavirus was laid to rest in his home in Sinoko village, Matunda sub location in Likuyani sub county as the family appealed for the government to conduct an investigation into his death.

Led by the widow Doris Juma the family played off reports that the officer succumbed to Coronavirus, pointing an accusing finger at the medics at the Bondo sub county hospital for negligence that led to her husband’s death.

She said her husband was diabetic and also suffered from pneumonia and instead of the officers at the facility dealing with the two they rushed to announce that he was Coronavirus positive.

“In fact a doctor on duty at the facility ran away leaving a nurse to handle him and it is painful that my husband died in the hands of his house help,” said Mrs. Juma.

She said Coronavirus was being used to cover up the truth about her husband’s death and appealed for a thorough investigation into his death.

“I’m not buying the medics report that my husband died of the Coronovirus. What I know there is something behind his death which is being hidden from the family,” she said.

Her sentiments were echoed by the deceased’s brother Mr. James Sirengo who also doubted the medical report.

The mother, Lydiah Maasai, eulogized his son as an obedient, honest and philanthropic son who was the pillar of the family and his death was a big blow.

Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli, who attended the burial appealed for calmness assuring the family that a thorough investigation will be carried out to establish the truth.

“The questions you have are the same questions that I have together with friends as to what really happened. We are interrogating it; we are not leaving it there. We want to know what happened and was it manageable and what could have been done better to avoid it,” said Kooli.
