As the politics of supremacy continues to be witnessed among various Luhya leaders, Kongoni Member of County Assembly in Kakamega County Josephat Kititi Mwasame has urged the leaders to swallow their pride for the sake of liberating the populous community from the yoke of tribalism that has held hostage and denied it the opportunity to clinch the country’s presidency.
Speaking in his ward, Mwasame said it was regrettable that as other communities were laying strategies in preparations for 2022 general elections, Luhya leaders were busy fighting each other for their selfish gain. He said the Luhya community has adequate numbers to seek the leadership of this nation but it was
disappointing that it has failed to do so due to disunity among the leaders.
He said it is high time the community strengthened its unity front ahead of the 2022 general elections and not allow greedy politicians continue creating divisions and using the same for political leverage. “Political power lies within a community’s united strength, time is ripe for Luhyas to forge that unity of purpose if they hope to clinch the presidency of this republic,” said Mwasame.
He urged Amani National Congress (ANC) Leader, Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses
Wetangula, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to swallow their individual pride and agree to front one of them for the country’s topmost seat.
“But if by 2022 things will have remained as they are now, then the Luhya community should forget about the presidency,” said Mwasame.
The MCA appealed to Mudavadi to lead a constructive dialogue with other leaders in order to enable the region to sponsor one candidate in 2022 presidential elections. “Since we regard and respect Mudavadi as the senior politician in this region, we therefore expect him to provide leadership that could eventually untangle the problem of Luhya disunity,” he said.
