Police interrupted a political meeting of close allies of Deputy President William Ruto held at Hamisi Member Of Parliament Charles Gimose’s home at Simbi on Saturday.
The Police lobbed tear gas cannisters where the gathering was being held and attendees took off, leaving few people with minor injuries.
Gimose accused the police officers of invading his home and interrupting a peaceful meeting of less than 50 people.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale accused the police of double standards adding that other politicians aligned to ODM leader Raila Odinga are allowed to conduct political meetings, while those aligned to the Deputy President are not.
“This was a meeting to brainstorm our political space in the region, and we observed Covid-19 regulations as stipulated by the government, but the police came and stopped the meeting,” he said.
Those in attendance were Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, Malava MP Malulu Injendi, area Member of County Assembly among others.
