Lugari MP Ayub Savula has urged the National Government to release funds to schools to cater for security management and enable schools pay salaries for subordinate staff.

Speaking in his constituency Savula regretted that security officers and subordinate staff have not been paid for the last three months since schools closed following the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

He said the security of schools in Kenya is now  becoming a growing concern due to vandalism and theft as a result of uncertainty by the Ministry of Education over the recommencement of classes in the country over the COVID-19 pandemic, putting the safety of children, teachers and staff at risk as the quality of infrastructure is compromised.

Savula has called upon the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government and the Ministry of Education to come up with modalities that will ensure remedial actions are implemented to secure property at learning institutions as Kenyans toil to flatten the Coronavirus pandemic curve before resumption to normalcy.

He said the Ministry of Education should send last term’s money to schools to facilitate payment of staff not employed by the national government.

During the development tour of his constituency, Savula who was accompanied by 20 Members of County Assembly allied to ANC  issued a Kshs 900,0000 cheque from the NG-CDF kitty to facilitate the construction of a classroom at Macho Musilm Mixed secondary school.

Savula said a further Kshs 2 million will be allocated to the school before the end of the year to help put up 2 more classrooms.
