Two people died after allegedly taking illicit brew suspected to be poisonous at Joy land village in Chekalini location Lugari Sub County.
The body of the first victim, identified as Elem Julius Kweya, 37 years old from Lukusi village in Musembe sub location was discovered at Musembe trading center at the border of Uasin Gishu and Kakamega Counties while the second victim, Nelson Wasike from Railway village in Munyuki sub location died while undergoing treatment at Lumakanda hospital.
Kweya’s body was found by a businessman, Fredrick Okumu, who had woken up at about 6am to open his business.
According to the deceased’s mother Mrs. Tabitha Mukalo, her son left home on Saturday morning in a healthy state before she received the shocking news of his death.
“After taking breakfast he left and never returned before I received the news concerning his untimely death,” said the mother.
The body was taken to Chebaiywa mortuary as police officers launched investigations into the incident.
The second victim, Nelson Wasike who offered handcart services Kipkaren market died hours later at the Lumakanda County hospital where he had been admitted.
Wasike who was drunk, collapsed while on his business and started foaming from the mouth before he was rescued and rushed to the hospital.
The two are said to have taken the brew at the same point with unconfirmed reports hinting that two more deaths have been recorded resulting from the brew.
Residents have raised concern over increased cases of brewing and drinking of illicit brew in the area.
