Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi has said that the current County budget has an allocation for a new fire fighting engine that is meant for the Malaba municipality.
This comes a day after tankers that were carrying petroleum products exploded along Kanduyi – Malaba highway at Koteko stage where one driver died instantly.
Speaking to members of the press, the deputy Governor assured residents that the Kshs 55 million modern engine has been factored in the 2020/21 budget which has already been passed by the County assembly and they are only waiting for the Senate to unlock the current stalemate on revenue allocation to Counties.
He said Governor Ojaamong is also making all efforts with the National government through the Kenya National Highways Authority and trademark East Africa to see to it the dualization of Busia and Malaba Highways is done and the construction of two major trailer parks in the two border towns; an idea that was echoed by Teso North MP Dr Oku Kunya.
Malaba residents especially the boda bodas and innocent pedestrians have over the past months raised concerns over the congestion of trucks that has been witnessed along the busy Kanduyi–Malaba highway resulting in a number of avoidable deaths, with the victims mainly being the boda boda rider.
