Police officers are hunting down 10 suspects who escaped from a cell at the Bungoma Central Police Station early on Sunday. 11 suspects escaped but one was tracked down, with the 10 still on the run. The suspects dug a hole on the cell’s rear wall using an angle line metal bar that reinforces the cell doors.
Other prisoners called attention to the officers on duty who ran to the spot and noticed the 11 missing. A search was instigated immediately around the area and some were seen running towards a bush at the airstrip, where one of them, Isaac Wekesa, was shot on the thigh and taken to the Bungoma Referral Hospital. The suspects were criminals with charges including robbery with violence, burglary, assault, theft, defilement and impersonation.
