Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong has reiterated police reservists shouldn’t be withdrawn from the North Rift region and castigated the government for doing so.
Lochakapong argued that the withdrawal of the reservists leaves them exposed to banditry attacks.
“We are not ready to fill the gap left by NPRs and they should not be withdrawn even if we have prevailing peace,” he said.
Lochakapong called on the government to set up many police stations to help boost security in the area.
“Security officers are not enough. There are areas where regular police can’t reach but KPRs can go,” he said.
Speaking at Sigor, Lochakapong reiterated the importance of the reservists saying that it was the only force capable of combing through the rough terrain of the area.
“These officers help a lot in combating crime and providing security along the pastoral communities’ borders and we are asking the government to employ more so that they can be stationed in hot spot areas,” he said.
The MP also asked the government to set up a Kenya police reserve training camp in the area to equip them with relevant policing knowledge to enable them conduct their work well.
