Police in Kitale arrested nominated Ford Kenya MCA Rodgers Barasa over claims of assaulting and stealing cash from Sitatunga MCA Daniel Kaburu at a funeral in Kiminini Sub County in Trans Nzoia County.
The incident happened two weeks ago, and good who were allegedly hired by area leaders assaulted Kaburu in a funeral attended by a host of MCAs from Ford Kenya and Jubilee.
Trouble started when Kaburu was given a chance to address the gathering and he claimed some leaders in the area were ferrying
youths to harass them. He was attacked by rowdy goons prompting the function’s moderator to halt proceedings for more than thirty minutes. The MCA was rushed to hospital and then reported the incident to the police.
Kaburu claimed MCAs Rodgers Barasa and Saboti politician Joseph Pepela were the people behind his assault case.
Police arrested Barasa and he was locked up at the Kitale police station for more than four hours before being released on police bond on Tuesday night with
police proceeding with investigations. Flanked by Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, he said his woes are as a result of his political inclination and that he is being disciplined for ills he didn’t commit.
He has since claimed Keiyo MCA Emmanuel Waswa is behind his woes and that he refused to join them in a meeting to oppose Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula. Waswa on his part has denied any involvement in Barasa’s arrest.
