Nandi hills MCA Gideon Koech is set to table a motion in the County assembly to discuss the decision of the County public service board to terminate the employment of about 400 health workers contracted by the County who were working as support staff. He said the move by the public service board to lay off employees without due regard to the provisions of the constitution and is not only illegal move but also an inhumane act that and health department officials are to blame, “The board disregarded the constitutional rights of employees as well as procedures of dismissal in the employment act, thus the County assembly should hold the county executive accountable for its actions,” he said.
He lamented that the board selectively chose to terminate the employment of health support workers on grounds that their employment didn’t follow due procedure yet other employees who were hired illegally are still happily serving in the County government, terming it unacceptable.
He has asked the County assembly of Nandi in its oversight role to hold to account the County executive, the chairperson and secretary of the public service board, Health and Finance CECs and have them summoned to appear before the assembly.
