Two people died on the spot on Tuesday afternoon following a fatal road accident that involved a motorbike and a canter along the Eldoret-Webuye highway in Lugari Sub County.
According to eyewitnesses the accident occurred after the motorbike rider who was carrying a passenger from Mwamba heading towards Turbo lost control before colliding head on with the canter which was approaching from the opposite side near Spring Park Hotel.
The witnesses said despite riding on the wrong side of the road the rider was over speeding and swaying on the busy highway causing the accident.
“He was riding on the right hand side instead of the left side swaying on the road. In fact several drivers swerved to avoid knocking them before he collided with this canter,” said Omar Rashid who witnessed the accident.
It is alleged the rider was drunk and he had been involved in another accident earlier after falling with the motorbike near Majengo Bridge along Majengo-Mwamba road.
The two bodies were removed from the scene by police officers from Turbo station and taken to Chebaiywa mortuary.
