Residents of Malakisi in Lwandanyi Ward, Sirisia Sub-county stormed the Malakisi health center, decrying what they said is shoddy work done by the contractor.
The residents led by former Malakisi councilor Mr. Nelson Okumu and Mzee Kassim Yambei said the County government of Bungoma released Kshs 5 million to renovate the health facility so as to improve service delivery but unfortunately, the money is being misused.
“We had a meeting with the health department Chief Officer Mr. Patrick Wandili who assured us that the contractor must purchase new iron sheets and raise the wall but what we are seeing is totally different. The contractor is just painting the old iron sheets without raising the wall,” said Mr. Okumu.
They added that the same thing has happened before when Kshs 1.9 million was released to renovate the maternity ward but unfortunately the contractor just repainted the iron sheets and replaced the fisher board.
Area MCA Mr. Tony Khaoya Baraza warned contractors against doing shoddy projects in his ward saying he will not sit and watch tax payers’ money being swindled.
“The residents of Lwandanyi ward have the right to get services and we will not accept substandard work, I struggled for the allocation of that money and somebody is only painting, ” he lamented.
They resolved to stop the contractor from moving on with work until a meeting is held with the county officials and the residents.
On other hand Mr. Baraza urged the County Government to replace the X-ray machine in the facility that failed some years back, forcing the residents to look for the service at Sirisia Sub-County hospital or Bungoma Referral.
