Education CS Prof. George Magoha has said parents must pay school fees if they can with schools reopening earlier this week. Speaking during the funeral of the late Mzee Edward Karoney in Nandi County, he said parents should take the little money they have for fees and take it to schools as payment.
His sentiment comes days after he said no school should send students hone due to fee arrears. On Monday, the Education CS said both private and public schools shouldn’t send students home. However, on Wednesday he said some have taken advantage, “I was being emphatic but being typical Kenyans some of the parents are taking advantage,” he said. He noted that if a parent takes his child to school without fees, then they’ll have to be interrogated and will be given respite if it’s established they can’t raise the required amount.
