Grade 4, Class 8 and Form 4 students will report back to school on Monday 12th October 2020, in the next phase of the gradual reopening of learning institutions. Education CS Prof. George Magoha has released the long awaited revised 2020 school calendar for exam candidates and Grade 4 learners. The candidates and Grade 4 learners will then close schools, the 2nd term, on December 23rd 2020. They’ll break for a 1 week holiday, till 1st January 2021.

After resumption of the 3rd term in January, the current Class 8 candidates will start their KCPE exams on 22nd March 2021, to 24th of the same month. KCSE exams will begin on 25th March 2021 to 16th April, lasting 3 weeks and 2 days. KCSE exam marking will then commence on 19th April to 7th May.

CS Magoha has also outlined the requirements for schools to keep, which include the mandatory use of facemasks, monitoring of body temperature for all learners and persons accessing the schools, hand washing and observing high levels of hygiene. He has noted that observing physical distancing will still be a challenge but this shouldn’t be used as an excuse to keep any child from school. Teachers have also been urged to continuously provide psycho social and spiritual support to learners and school support staff.

All schools have been linked to nearest public health facility, and those that were designated quarantine facilities, used, have been fumigated. Those that were designated but weren’t used haven’t been fumigated. The government has also met full costs for KCPE and KCSE exams for all candidates, and Magoha has said adherence to the Covid-19 schools reopening directives will be monitored, to determine when other classes will be reopened.
