Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba has said financing for the health sector isn’t adequate, as Counties grapple with the Covid-19 pandemic. The Governor was speaking at a joint press address with Health CAS Rashid Aman, who visited Trans Nzoia on Thursday to ascertain its handling of the Coronavirus. “Health takes 27% of my budget yet I’m still short of infrastructure, health workers and equipment. As we speak some of my health workers are on strike because of delayed salaries and promotions,” he said.
He however acknowledged that people should understand that since payments in the Counties haven’t been made owing to lack of funds and health workers shouldn’t be aggrieved. O promotions, he said the County Public Service Board will oversee the process, “There is nothing automatic, adverts will be made, interviews held and the successful ones will be promoted.”
He also said another problem facing Kenyans is the adherence to Covid-19 infection prevention regulations won’t be as consistent owing to ‘Covid-19 fatigue’. He explained that the need for economic productivity will surpass the need to observe safety precautions in place.
