Residents of Lung’a village in Matayos constituency, Busia County have come out to decry increasing cases of theft in the area.

Led by former Matayos south ward MCA Lucas Wakuloba, the residents have cited cases of cattle theft and breakage into homesteads and learning institutions, “We are living in fear. We are forced to sleep with our cattle in the house because when we leave them outside we find them stolen the following morning.”

They spoke after irate locals beat to death one suspected thief who is believed to be in a group of thugs who broke into Lung’a primary school at night and stole valuables including laptops, “Before the school was broken into, they stole several cattle in the village and the residents got the hint about them,” explained Wakuloba.
He joined hands with other locals in accusing police officers from Nasewa police post for failing to tackle the theft menace and instead concentrate more on fighting the sell of illicit brew especially chang’aa, “We have failed to understand whether the officers were brought here to protect our lives and property or go after chang’aa brewers and drinkers.”

They have warned that they will continue taking law into their own hands if the situation will not change, “We want to send a strong warning to all thieves that they should change or else we are not going to spare them.”
