The US government is pleased with the efforts put forward by the Health Ministry in the country to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Speaking when he paid a courtesy call to Trans Nzoia County Governor Patrick Khaemba and distributed 80,000 face masks that will benefit students currently in schools, US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter lauded the government for the role played in the war against Covid-19, citing decisions like increasing isolation centres and calling for the setting up of 300-bed capacity isolation centres in all Counties. “During the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, some people predicted that Kenya will lose 360,000 people in three months. This hasn’t happened due to the safety measures put in place,” he said.

On the issues of the BBI report, he said the US doesn’t intend to interfere with Kenya’s affairs, and instead urged leaders to embrace democracy. He said his country will support a democratic path where everyone’s vote counts, adding that a leader will be supported who will win by popular vote. He also appealed to leaders to shun divisive politics and tribal groupings that pop out all the time.

On his part Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba thanked the Ambassador for handing out the face masks, saying the masks will help students in several schools. Khaemba noted that there is an upsurge in Coronavirus cases in the County and he urged residents to observe the Covid-19 infection prevention guidelines.
