A suspected criminal was lynched by an angry mob after an aborted maize theft incident in Mukuyu village, Mwamba sub location in Lugari Sub County.
Confirming the incident, Mwamba sub location assistant chief Edwin Nashirobe said the deceased, Christopher Muheyi (30), together with his two accomplices sneaked into Mzee Michael Wabukala’s compound at about 10pm and broke into his store and started packing the cereals.
He said family members who heard the movement outside woke up to check what was going on before the deceased attacked and seriously injured Mzee Wabukala’s grandson Jacob Khisa (14) who was the first to get outside.
The family raised an alarm attracting tens of villagers who thronged the compound and managed to corner Muheyi before descending upon him with all manner of crude weapons killing him on the spot while his accomplices escaped.
According to the security report, the deceased and his abettors are notorious criminals who have been causing Mwamba residents sleepless nights and have been booked at Mwamba police post and Turbo station severally.
The body was removed by officers from Turbo police station and taken to Chebaiywa mortuary as they launched investigations into the incident.
