Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has proposed that the money that had been set aside as travelling allowances for MPs and MCAs be set aside to cater for infrastructure improvement in school, since the Coronavirus pandemic halted and affected travelling plans.
Speaking during the burial of former Bungoma mayor Eliud Wanyonyi, Wamunyinyi said the Treasury should move with speed to divert the funds to the schools’ kitty to enable the children have a conducive environment for learning. The improvement of infrastructure in schools including the need to construct more classrooms to facilitate social distancing has become a concern among leaders.
His sentiments were echoed by Bungoma based lawyer John Makali who said infrastructure is a big challenge facing many schools especially as pupils have to return to school and social distancing has to be observed. On matters politics, Kakamega County MCAs who attended the funeral led by Majority leader Joel Ongoro rooted for Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s national entrance in politics saying he is capable of performing at a higher position after having served for two terms as a Governor. He also said as MCAs they will be congregating in Busia soon to discuss their pension proposal to the government saying some leaders are languishing in poverty despite having served well during their tenure.
