As BBI continues to elicit different opinions especially from political leaders, some women have also raised concerns about the report, with calls not to scrap the woman representative seat. Speaking in Webuye town, Bungoma County KUPPET treasurer Mrs Rebbeca Masibayi said doing away with the seat and creating slots for women in the Senate isn’t beneficial since they won’t engage the common mwananchi on the ground well. She appealed to the President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to intervene and ensure women remain active in politics and development since this will encourage them to take part and play their role in leadership.
“We have no problem with amendments but giving us the Senate seats minus any kitty, which the woman reps had, is demeaning. Many women manage funds put under their care very well,” she said. Masibayi urged women to join active politics and fight it out for top seats with their male counterparts. However, she appealed to them to stop despising each other and instead offer the necessary support and make sure they take each other to the top.
