The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has urged doctors not to put their lives at risk, after four doctors succumbed to the Coronavirus in the last 24 hours. In a statement on Saturday, acting KMPDU secretary general Dr. Chibanzi Mwachonda said the Union has convened a special National Advisory Council meeting to be held on Sunday to deliberate on the way forward on the welfare, occupational safety and health of doctors countrywide.
KMPDU condoled with the families of the four doctors, Dr. Emarah Ashraf, Dr. Hudson Alumera, Dr. Jackline Njoroge, Dr. Faith Kanjiru Mbuba, “Meanwhile, all doctors are instructed not to risk their lives as per section 14(2) of the Occupational Safety Health Act 2007 pending the Resolution of the special NAC meeting,” read the statement.
On Saturday, the Health Ministry confirmed 21 deaths, which took the total fatalities in Kenya to 1,249. On the otehr hand, Kenya’s Covid-19 cases have risen to 69,273.
