Matungu MP Justus Murunga is dead. The MP passed away at the St. Mary’s hospital in Mumias, Kakamega County, in a suspected Covid-19 case. The MP collapsed at his home and was rushed to hospital where he passed away. He was a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and was a member of the department of agriculture and livestock.
Leaders led by Deputy President William Ruto sent their condolence messages, “We are heartbroken by the death of Matungu MP Justus Murunga Makokha. He was a focused, hardworking and visionary leader who relentlessly advocated for the empowerment of the people. A development-oriented titan who was dedicated to public service, Mheshimiwa Murunga was steadfast, amiable and loving. We will miss his firmness, wise counsel and vibrancy to unite and transform Western region. Our thoughts and prayers to the Makokha family, their loved ones and the people of Matungu Constituency. Rest In Peace, Mheshimiwa,” his post on Twitter said.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said Justus Murunga was a hardworking & selfless leader “…..whom we worked together closely to develop Matungu. I’m deeply saddened by his death which has robbed Kakamega a focused leader whose contribution in the development of our County will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.”
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has also sent his message of condolence, “Deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Matungu MP Justus Makokha Murunga. We pray that the Lord grants the family and the people of Matungu strength during this incredibly difficult time. Rest In Peace, Mheshimiwa Murunga.”
