A day after President Uhuru Kenyatta issued directives geared towards containing the spread of the Coronavirus, the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has directed police officers countrywide to enforce the Covid-19 protocols and regulations. On Thursday, Mutyambai said he has also directed all police officers to enforce curfew orders from 10:00PM to 4:00AM without fear or favor.
This comes even as Kenya recorded 1,008 new Covid-19 cases, with the positivity rate still high. Owners of bars, restaurants and other places open to the public have been urged to close their premises by 9:00PM, “The NPS shall support County governments to close Dow restaurants, bars and shops which will not adhere to the set regulations,” he said.
He also stated that the National Police Service will work closely with the National Government Administration Officers and County governments enforcement teams to ensure there is total compliance with the Health Ministry’s guidelines to counter the spread of Covid-19. “Accordingly we appeal to everyone to wear face masks, keep social distance while in public places and to avoid unnecessary travelling,” he added.
