Six suspects were arraigned at a Kitale Court on allegations stealing livestock in several areas of Sabata, Misemwa and Milele areas of Kiminini sub county in Trans Nzoia County. The suspects, who had terrorized the areas for the past three months were apprehended after a successful raid led by police officers.
The six, Jafred Waswa, James Mwangale, Emmanuel Wafula, Wafula Mukhwana, Stephen Ojuma, Alpha Kongoti denied the charges against them. The Court heard that on 22nd of November 2020 at Matunda sub location, one cow costing Kshs 60,000 belonging to Griffin Nyukuri was stolen and in Misemwa village in the same sub location, 3 sheep costing Kshs 12,000 belonging to Ambrose Wafula were stolen. Five cows belonging to Henry Masake were also stolen.
The Court heard that the suspects upon stealing the livestock in the villages transported them using a lorry, and they were working together with some youths from the area who were given some money. They were released on cash bonds and are set to appear before the Court for mention on different dates.
On his part, Trans Nzoia County police commander Eric Ochieng has appealed to County residents to volunteer information that will help unearth the links being used by suspects to steal livestock, pointing out that security organs will not relent on their quest to make sure criminal activities are dealt with. He said youths in Kiminini sub county are colluding with criminals to engage in unlawful activities.
