An irate mob lynched a man suspected of stealing chicken in Matisi village, Moi’s bridge sub location, Likuyani Sub County.

Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Maurice Mukopi said the deceased Sammy Mazigulu (31) sneaked into Ms. Susan Imbosa’s compound, broke into chicken hut and started packing the birds in a sack.

He said Ms. Imbosa who was awakened by chicken noise raised an alarm attracting the attention of her children and neighbours who quickly responded to her distress call and managed to corner the suspect before descending upon him with all manner of crude weapons killing him on the spot.

Mukopi who visited the scene on Thursday said three chicken were found in a sack near the body.

Sources alleged to West Media that the deceased was in a love relationship with Ms. Imbosa before they parted ways about three years ago and it wasn’t clear if indeed he gone to steal or he was killed as a result of love gone sour.

Though it further revealed that the deceased was a notorious criminal who has been causing residents sleepless nights.

The body was removed by police officers from Matunda station and taken to Kitale mortuary as they launched an investigation into the incident.

Mukopi, however, warned locals against taking the law into their hands whenever such criminal activities occurred in the area, “they should instead hand such suspects to security agencies in order to pave room for due process of the law,” urged the local administrator.
