Police in Lugari are searching for a woman who slashed her husband to death after he allegedly abused her in Lunyito village Lugari location, Lugari Sub County.
The deceased, Fredrick Simiyu, died in the wee hours of Friday morning while undergoing treatment in a private clinic at Lugari station market where he had been rushed with deep cuts all over the body.
According to the deceased’s brother David Foya Lwangale, the sister in-law identified as Elizabeth Khalumba attacked her husband with a machete on Thursday evening when they were alone at home cutting him severally on the head, hands and ribs.
“I was returning home from work at about 5pm when I found my brother lying unconscious on the ground, I called for a motorbike and rushed him to a private clinic at Lugari station where he was admitted but unfortunately he died while undergoing treatment a few minutes past midnight,” said Foya.
He said the woman who was still in the compound alleged that they had quarrelled and the husband had insulted her badly prompting the action.
However he said the wife claimed to have hit him using a club but the deep cuts indicated that she either used a machete or a hoe.
Another brother, John Simiyu, said the two have been in endless feud and efforts by the family to intervene and help solve their problems and have them live in peace have been futile.
“As a family we tried to intervene to ensure the two live in peace but our brother told us to keep off his marriage and we decided to stay away and they have been fighting regularly,” Simiyu.
He accused the deceased of mistreating his wife and defended her for the action saying she might have reacted in defense of herself.
“Our sister in-law has been through hell in the hands of our brother and she has not enjoyed peace in her marriage but it is regrettable that now she is guilty of causing our brother’s death,” he said.
Police officers from Lumakanda station removed the body and took it to Chebaiywa mortuary in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County and the DCI office launched investigations into the incident as they search for the woman who fled after she heard her husband died.
