Kakamega County woman representative Elsie Muhanda has called for immediate intervention in the ongoing health workers strike that has seen several public hospitals closed. Speaking in Lugari, Muhanda regretted how the strike has continued to cause pain, death and suffering among millions of Kenyans.
She called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and the council of governors to find an amicable way of ending the strike in the affected Counties. “It is regrettable to see innocent Kenyans losing their lives and millions of others continue to suffer for lack of medical services occasioned by the strike, but we also want a good working environment for the health workers so that they don’t put their lives in danger due to lack of protective gears especially during this Coronavirus pandemic,” said Muhanda.
She said it’s time for both the national and County governments to hold a round table meeting with the striking workers to end the strike.
Elsewhere Muhanda urged residents to continue strictly observing Covid-19 measures to protect themselves and their loved ones against the deadly Coronavirus. During the tour, Muhanda gave tents and market umbrellas to several groups and individual traders in Lugari sub county.
