Kenyans have been challenged to choose a government that is able to fix its ailing economy in the next general election.
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has said unless Kenyans resolve to choose leaders who are able to revive the economy then it will collapse rendering hundreds of thousands of Kenyans jobless, “Up there the government is broke, down here citizens are broke and jobless. The government now want to increase university fees, our national debt has soured and the Kenya Revenue Authority is not able to collect its maximum target.”

“The agenda of the next leadership should be economy, economy, economy. If it will not be that then I can assure you we shall be finished as a country,” he added.

Addressing worshippers at St. Stephen’s ACK church in Busia town, Mudavadi said there is ray of hope in the Bill which Nambale MP Hon. John Bunyasi has tabled in parliament which seeks to create an agency that will manage the public debt, “We should not lose hope because through the Bill we shall get remedy.”

His sentiments were echoed by Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Nambale MP Hon. John Bunyasi who decried the deteriorating economy which has affected operations in the Counties, “Things are thick in the Counties. We have not paid workers for the last four months due to lack of funds. Money was sent late from Nairobi at the end of the financial year and right now we are in the process of passing a supplementary budget which will enable us get funds,” said the county Governor.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli on his side hailed Mudavadi as a renown economist who helped revive Kenyan economy when it was in ICU when he was appointed minister for finance in 1992 by the then President Daniel Moi (the late), “Despite him being the youngest minister by then, he managed to revive the economy and fix it. He is also the third longest serving minister of finance in Kenya after Mwai Kibaki and the late Prof. George Saitoti.”
