Youths in Webuye have been urged to steer clear of drug abuse, which is becoming rampant. Speaking to two youth football teams from Ndivisi ward who will be representing Webuye East sub county in the Governor Wycliffe Wangamati tournament in Bungoma County scheduled later this month. he said youths shouldn’t use drugs, which may in tun affect their sporting and professional careers.
He said many talented players have been affected by drugs and their promising careers destroyed, noting that some national football clubs could be following the tournament closely to identify talents. Sinoko PCU and Misikhu combined, the 2016 Bungoma County men’s football champions, are the two teams that secured the chance to represent Webuye East constituency and all of them are upbeat about winning the tournament and bagging the Kshs 300,000 on offer.
Wanyonyi pledged to support the two teams fully and lauded them for maintaining the slogan ‘Ndivisi Kwanza.’ “I’m happy that the two teams come from Ndivisi, and their slogan has been maintained,” he stated. Wanyonyi further praised the County government through the Ministry of Sports under CEC Mrs. Everline Kakai for coming up with the idea of hosting a football tournament, saying he’ll contribute funds along with other MCAs to ensure tournaments are held from the wards level.
The captain of the two teams praised Governor Wangamati for the initiative, which will keep them occupied, saying such events must happen every time students are at home for the holidays.
