The Ministry of Health has today reported 713 new COVID-19 cases which came from a sample of 5,230 tests in the last 24 hours. This was announced by the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe during his conference with the Council of Governor. Kagwe reported that the country stands at a total of 110,356 cases since the disease struck the country.

During his address, the CS announced 12 fatalities making the total death toll to 1,898. However, the total number of recoveries has risen to 87,903 from the report. This comes after 167 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is now at 14%.

The Council of Governors together with the Ministry of Health has asked Kenyans to be vigilant and follow the covid-19 protocols to the letter as we go through the third wave of the virus. The CoG chairman Governor Martin Wambora has urged the president to issues 30-day political gatherings ban in order to help contain the rate at which the disease is being spread.

“We urge Kenyans to be extra vigilant as we deal with the third wave of the virus in the country,” said Wambora. He went ahead to encourage governors to show an example by ensuring they are vaccinated against the virus in their given counties.

“This Friday, I will be in Embu to lead the inoculation drive and I will be the first person in that county to do so, I urge my colleagues in other counties to do the same,” said Wambora.

Out of the 1.02 vaccines that arrived last week Wednesday, 4000 individuals have been vaccinated with non-portraying any side effects from the vaccine. The first prioritized Kenyans were essential workers among them health personnel, security officers and teachers.
