Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and 7 of his employees who were accused alongside him have been released on a 14 million surety for nine counts charged against them by a Kakamega law court.

Malala was accused of robbery with violence, assault, molestation, being armed in readiness to commit a felony and use of force that inflicted injury on a presiding clerk Morine Naliaka, where a power bank worth 8000 shillings belonging to IEBC was stolen at Munami Primary School.

The senator and seven of his employees denied the charges before senior magistrate Dolphine Alego and were released on a surety of 500,000 each, the case will be heard on 22nd June 2021.

Malala and four others were also accused of robbing with violence two ODM officials Cleophas Shimanyula of 200,000 shillings and 100,000 from Nabii Nabwera and damaged tyres of a vehicle belonging to one of them at Mwira village in Matungu sub-county and were released on a 2 million surety each. The hearing is slated for 27th June 2021.

Malala’s bodyguard Joel Micha  Wafula was also accused of using his firearm unlawfully, shooting and injuring a resident at Munami village, Koyonzo sub-county during the  Matungu by-elections.

He was released on a surety of 200,000 shillings for the two counts awaiting a hearing on 23rd June 2021. The eight were represented by advocate Charles Malala.
