A sorrowful mood has engulfed Lukusi village in Sango sub location Likuyani Sub County after a body of a 49 year old high school teacher was retrieved from an 80ft borehole in his compound.
The deceased Fredrick Wetende was deputy principal at Enchoro high school in South Mugirango sub county, Kisii County.
The teacher is said to have returned home Tuesday evening but he was not in his jovial moods as his family and neighbors are used to seeing him.
After taking supper he went to the bedroom as other family members also retired to bed moments later but when they went to wake him up Wednesday morning to have breakfast they didn’t find him.
After unsuccessfully search, they spotted his shoes near the borehole and on looking inside they saw an object floating on the water before alerting neighbors and security officers who jointly managed to retrieve the body.
Confirming the incident area police commander Bernard Ngungu said the deceased nosedived in the borehole since the body was found with legs upward.
He said the body had no visible injuries and it was taken to Kimbilio mortuary in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County for postmortem to establish the cause of his death.
“We cannot just assume that his death is suicidal until a postmortem is done to confirm it,” said the sub county police boss.
The deceased’s wife Selpher Muya who is a teacher at St. Elizabeth Girls secondary school Likuyani was not at home when the incident occurred as she is among the teachers marking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE) in Nairobi.
