A middle aged woman from Kipture area in Emgwen constituency Nandi County is at the police cells in Kapsabet over fraud allegations of extortion.
Confirming the incident, Kipture location chief Mr Cleophas Bunei said the suspect by the name Irine Jemutai was arrested on Sunday by police after her attempts of extorting money from her husband flopped.
Bunei cited that the suspect is alleged to have deceived her husband that their five year old child had a kidney problem and she needed some money for medication.
The woman is alleged to have lied to her husband that the child had undergone a kidney transplant and that she needed money to settle the hospital bills whereby it turned out to be pure lies after investigations prompting the husband to take action.
The chief revealed that after conducting thorough investigations on the case, it was found out that the child was not ill at all and that the woman only wanted to extort money from her husband.
The administrator has urged women to seek money in legal and rightful ways not through lies and extortion if they would like to be in safer hands saying what the woman attempted to do is very wrong and is against the law thus has a case to answer.
“I would like to ask anyone in need of money to consider seeking it through rightful means and not using lies, deceptions or extortion,” he said.
The suspect will be arraigned in court on Monday for fraud allegations against her husband.
