Farmers in the vast Bungoma County have been called upon to take loans from the Agricultural Finance Cooperation to enable them expand their farming activities.

AFC Country Director George Kubai while officiating a ground breaking ceremony of their offices in Bungoma County said they are focusing on improving livelihood of farmers by giving them loans saying they should not shy away.

He said they have been operating in the county for some time with offices at the cereals board but having their own premises which will be accessible at the County will be an added advantage to farmers.

However, he called upon those who will successfully apply for the loans to ensure they repay on time to ensure the funds revolve saying those who have the tendency not to repay pegging on having the loans waived.

Bungoma Deputy Governor Charles Ngome said the cooperation should lessen on rules to access the funds saying many have been skeptical in wanting to apply for the funds due to the tedious exercise they have been previously been subjected to.

He also called upon the national government to waive the debts of cane farmers who previously partook loans from AFC and took their cane to Mumias Sugar Company but unfortunately it trampled before they were paid.
