Clergies especially in Catholic churches in Kenya have been urged to shun politics and avoid politicians to move to the pulpit because it’s a sacred place meant for priests and other churches leaders as stipulated in the doctrines of the Catholic churches.
Addressing Catholic congregation during the dedication of St. Peter’s Catholic Church parish Ndalu, H. E Most Rev. Hebertus Matheus Maria Van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya said politicians should be avoided by all means in order to avoid politics that has taken up space in many churches because of money brought by politicians which end up dividing churches in tribal and political party line and making the church forget its mandatory goals.
He applauded the Ndalu Parish faithful for building the church by themselves without serious donations from politicians or donors and admitted that the construction was worth the sacrifice and urged other churches especially Catholic to emulate and use their resources to build the sanctuary for the Lord. H.E. Rev. Hebertus Matheus in his preaching emphasized on the issue of love for one another which he insisted that it’s the cardinal rule for every Christian and must be exercised in totality by making sure that those in better position support the less privileged in the society especially in matters education terming it as the only equalizer between the poor and the rich.
His sentiments were echoed by Rt. Rev. Joseph Obanyi Sagwe, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega and who is also Apolistic administrator of the Catholic diocese of Bungoma appealed to parents to take good care of their children and invest a lot of their resources in the education of their children but alternatively give them spiritual guidance and upbringing.
He appreciated Ndalu Parish Council development committee for doing great work for utilizing resources well to put up a nice church worth Kshs. 30 million that will accommodate more than eight hundred people and asked them to use it well for its strictly spiritual purpose.
The ceremony was attended by leaders from Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties among them, Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati, his deputy prof. Charles Ngome Kibanani, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, CECs, Chief Officers and several members of County Assembly from the two counties.
Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati thanked church members for the financial sacrifice they made and promised to support churches within the county and asked them to pray for the country for the political stability and cohesion adding that as a county government, they are keen on matters education and this year the governors scholarship is going to benefit one thousand bright students from needy families across the county as he urged parents to inform their children to apply for the same so long as they fall within the required criteria adding that the process of the selecting beneficiaries will be free and fair.
He has also urged the Senate to pass the BBI report that will be debated on next week the way the National Assembly did as wananchi are ready for the referendum and he emphasized that he will be on the forefront of supporting the BBI and will rally the county of Bungoma to pass the BBI as it has a lot of goodies for the people of Bungoma and the country at large.
On his part Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa who is also the national chairman of Catholic members of Parliament said they are steady fast in following their church doctrine in discharging their parliament duties for the smooth running of the country adding they will always consult the church on some issues concerning some bills in the assembly before they pass them and that has made them perform tremendously in both assemblies.
He urged citizens to follow the rules and regulations put up by ministry of health in order to avoid being infected by Covid-19 and to help the government fight the virus so that it can be suppressed in order for the lives to normalize.
