Webuye East Sub County residents have been urged to work in harmony with security officers in order to restore peace and order in Webuye town and its environs.
Addressing his colleagues, friends and business community in Webuye police station during the farewell party of Base Commander formally of Webuye who has been now transferred to Lwanda in Vihiga County and madam Rose Simiyu who was deputy OCS who has now been promoted to the rank of OCS and taken to Siaya county, Bungoma East OCPD Mr. Valerian Obore said that crime in Webuye has reduced due to joint work done by police officers and the Webuye community but urged for the cooperation to be strengthened so that few incidents which are happening can be stopped so that people can do their work and business well instead of being disturbed by few individuals whose aim is to disrupt the peace that is being experienced now.
Obore applauded Webuye officers for doing great and exceptional job to deal with criminals and asked them to keep it up affirming that Co mandate is to keep peace.
He however said that there are some few police officers who are engaging in corruption, collecting money from illicit brewers of chang’aa and busaa and warned them that their days are numbered and anyone who will be found will be dealt with.
“We have had a few complaints about some of our officers who move around illegal brew joints asking for some commission in order to allow them continue brewing, when we get you we will arrest the officers plus the brewer for engaging in corruption before judging you again for being in possession of illicit brew because the two of you have committed an offence “said Obore.
He said no police officer has been permitted to take any money from the illicit brewers and appealed for residents who will spot such characters to report immediately promising confidentiality of those who will report saying such will help wipe out illicit brew and make the society a better place for legal businesses.
He added that the station now has enough police vehicles for security purposes and encouraged the residents not to fear reporting if there is any criminal incident at any time and the police will respond immediately.
The sentiments were echoed by Mr. Kimani, Webuye OCS who informed the residents that security begins with an individual and the community has a stake in making sure that there is enough peace in the country and insisted that curfew is still there and anyone who will go against the government directives will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He added that as security officers are ready to work with the community and appealed to the residents to embrace them and not to see them as enemies.
On their part, Webuye business community led by Mr. Ruga Muchai hailed the police for exemplary services and said Webuye town is experiencing peace and shops are not broken into as it used to be in previous years.
They congratulated transferred and promoted officers for their good work in Webuye singling out former base commander Mrs. Rogers Lwembe for bringing sanity in matatu sector that has seen discipline in the transport sector and asked them to continue with the same spirit in their new stations.
The officers Mrs Lwembe and Mrs Simiyu appreciated the support given to them by Webuye people and asked them to extend it to the new officers and help them in making sure that there is peace and cohesion.
