The Kenya National Union of Nurses secretary for Nandi county Branch Amos Ng’etich has asked the county government of Nandi through the health docket to ensure that health workers plight are addressed and given good working environment since they are part of front line workers.
Addressing journalists in Kapsabet town during the celebrations of the International nurses day, Ng’etich said that the health care workers plight have not been addressed parse thus they need to be accorded good working environment and given a comprehensive medical cover similar to that of the medics to be on the safer side.
“As nurses we are still facing a lot of challenges including poor working conditions, lack of enough protective gears and lack of promotions a situation which has made our work very difficult and the government should really do something,” he revealed
He said that as Nandi healthcare workers have nothing to smile at or be proud of as they have lost over one hundred healthcare workers country wide since the inception of Covid-19 pandemic which has continued to put their lives at risk as front line workers.
“The government should consider introducing a compensation package for healthcare workers in case of any dangers they’ll encounter while in line of duty,” he added.
He insisted that health care workers are at risk of contracting deadly diseases when dealing with patients and the government should provide them with risk allowances.
