Founders of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (WECOFA) have condemned a few union officials of the university who are striving to derail the running of the university to the detriment of the community and the many people who rely on it for education and survival.
Speaking in Kakamega, the WECOFA chairperson Tom Shivachi says that with the disbandment of the council members all programmes at the institution are brought to a standstill including the graduation ceremony that is to be on in a month’s time.
Shivachi now blames a few union officials whom he says have been collaborating with the judiciary to bring the institute down.
The chair’s fear is that with the failure of the institute, economic progress of Kakamega County and its neighboring cities will also collapse.
Shivachi added that the officials have a hidden agenda to benefit themselves from the university’s leadership.
He has threatened to organize major demonstrations that will involve students, workers and the residents of Kakamega to demand for protection of the institute calling upon the top leadership of the country, the county and the constituency to step in and intervene.
