Endebess patients suffering from various ailments that needed operations had a reason to smile during 58th Madaraka day celebrations after being joined by their area MP Dr. Robert Pukose as he provided free surgical services together with his doctor counterpart Simon Kapchanga at the Endebess Sub County Hospital.
Dr. Pukose, who is a surgeon, his counterpart doctor attended to five patients with swelling conditions at the Endebess Sub County Hospital on Tuesday.
The second time legislator who has developed a culture of assisting Doctors at the facility to conduct surgeries said he is moved by his calling and the desire to help the needy.
“I normally find time to attend to patients that are recommended for local Surgery as one way of giving back to the society since most of them cannot meet the cost of the procedures,” he said.
One of the patients that the MP operated in the exercise known as local anesthesia was Caroline Chesang who has been living with a growth on one of her fingers since 2007.
“We were stuck after she was told to have surgery to rectify the situation. We are grateful that the legislator has come to our rescue,” said her husband James Taifa.
Dr. Simon Kapchanga who partnered with the legislator in the operation said the service is commendable since most of the patients they have assisted are from humble backgrounds.
Dr. Pukose also called on the county government to prioritize infrastructural development at the facility which also has a challenge of staffing.
Residents thanked the legislator, calling the service a rare gesture that must be emulated by other professionals who ventured in other fields like politics.
“I call upon all leaders who have different academic qualifications to always find time out of their busy schedules to offer their services to Kenyans in their individual capacity,” said Mr. Andrew Kilui.
Dr. Pukose who is certified by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) to offer the service, has a Masters Degree in Surgery from the University of Nairobi.
Before joining politics, he served in the capacities of District Medical Services Officer (DMSO) in the Ministry of Health in Baringo region, as a Medical Superintendent at the Kabarnet District Hospital
and the the Eldama Ravine Hospitals.
