The Kenya National Private Security Workers Union Secretary General Isaac Andabwa has appealed to the national government to hasten implementation of proposed reforms in the Private Security sector and ensure guards are well armed with proper tools of trade.

Speaking   after visiting Mr. Situma Sitikho, a survivor of last week’s attack at Kivaywa Boys High School in Lugari constituency who is admitted at the Webuye County hospital, Andabwa condemned the incident in which three security guards were killed and one left with serious injuries.

He said it was high time for the government to fast truck proposed reforms in the sector and ensure the guards are given firearms.

He accused some of the leaders for politicizing and opposing the proposal to arm private security guards with guns citing security threats.

“We should stop playing politics with our peoples’ lives, let the government fast track implementation of the proposed reforms and arm private security guards with guns,” said Andabwa.

He said with proper vetting and training of the guards will adhere to the regulations and ensure the firearms are used properly for their own safety and that of their employers as well as their property.

Mr. Andabwa said it is important that in every institution, office, companies or organizations that have hired the services of private security guards at least one of them should be armed with a gun.

Elsewhere, medical reports have indicated that the survivor Situma Sitikho who was rushed to Webuye Hospital in critical condition is responding well to the treatment and is out of danger.

His family led by his elder brother Michael Sitikho has appealed for well wishers to support  them in settling the hospital bill saying Situma was the sole breadwinner for his family that lives in poverty and it has no means to raise the bill.
