The National Environmental Complaints Committee Secretary Dr John Chumo has asked Nandi residents to embrace tree planting exercise for the benefits of conserving the environment and achieving the ten percent forest cover.
Chumo cited that Nandi has good soils and receives regular rains thus urging residents to continue keeping and preserving their environment through tree planting.
“I want to ask you to stick to this year’s World Environment day’s theme of restoring ecosystem so as to protect the environment for today’s current and future generations,” Chumo cited.
He noticed that there are some of human activities conducted within the wetlands and in forests which pose a great damage to environment therefore wants Nandi residents to desist from such activities and instead be at the fore front in championing for the conservation and preservation of the environment.
The NECC secretary further clarified that the most challenge facing the environment is forest degradation and urbanization with a lot of waste dumped to rivers, seas and lakes thus calls upon the county governments from across the nation to put in measures of ensuring environmental conservation is given priority at its best for the betterment of future generation.
He asked locals residing within the wetlands and forests to avoid conducting human activities such as cultivation on these sites to avoid pollution and degradation.
