Residents of Nagooba-Bukalama village in Bunyala North ward, Bunyala Sub County in Busia County have a reason to smile after a former nominated senator donated to them a boat.
The residents received the eight person capacity boat from former nominated Senator Mvita Mshenga to aid them cross flood waters and access other parts of the Sub County.
Led by Pastor Manuel Obwolo, the over 56 families termed the donation a big relief to them, stating how they have been going through hell crossing the water.
“Today we are so happy having received the boat. We have been struggling to cross this river which was created by flood waters last year. The river has dangerous wild animals like crocodiles which endanger our lives. We really appreciate the donation,” said Obwolo
They have however appealed for more donations from the government and other well wishers.
“We need at least six boats here to help us cross the river and we urge the government and other good Samaritans to come to our aid.” He added
Speaking during the handing over of the boat to the community, Senator Mshenga called on other politicians from the constituency to further politics of development instead of hurling insults at each other.
“Our people need development. Don’t come to divide them and incite them against each other. Bring them development because that is what they require,” uttered Mshenga
Floods ravaged Southern parts of Budalang’i since March 2020 displacing at least forty thousand people.
