Trans Nzoia residents have been warned to be weary of some cartels moving around in the name of being reinforcement officers that approve building constructions in a scheme that has seen several locals lose their cash to such corrupt syndicate.
According to Sirende ward MCA who doubles up as chairman for planning and lands committee in the Assembly Alfred Weswa claims locals have been losing their cash to some cartels hovering in their areas in disguise of reinforcement officers attached to planning and approval section of buildings who have fleeced locals of their cash.
The warning comes days after several locals in his ward lodged some complaints to his committee where they claimed having been duped by unscrupulous persons and fleeced their money under the guise of being employees attached to planning and lands department in the county who approves building construction.
Joseph Wekesa a local at Bikeke claimed to have lost his Ksh.13, 000 to a group of syndicates that reached his site of construction and fleeced him his cash under pretext that they were employees of county Government of Trans Nzoia and were reinforcing construction laws of plan approval which he had gone against.
The MCA claimed most of those syndicates mostly move around without plans and have made it a habit of fleecing unsuspecting locals their huge sums of money claiming those roaming around even have no knowledge of the same calling upon locals to resist being conned by such individuals.
He noted that the scheme is well orchestrated and most of the syndicates have got some better links with some of the county employees who plan well in fleecing unsuspecting locals of their dues calling upon locals before allowing them to con their money ask them hard questions which involve their introduction as well as providing their identification cards and the department they work in.
He however cautioned locals against giving anybody on site money as only legal cash is paid in relevant offices where a valid receipt is given upon payment of any services noting that doing so will help curb the rising conman ship that is thriving within the county.
The committee chair has called upon locals within the county to also report the persons to police or security agencies within their reach in order to help minimize such behavior that has taken toll within the county claiming all the locals together with leaders as well as security agencies must work in solidarity to curb the rising cases of
this conman ship.
