A sorrowful cloud hangs over Mayoyo village, Lwandeti location in Matete, Kakamega County after the body of a 31 year old man was found decomposing in his house.
According to the deceased’s father Mr. Lawrence Wefila, his son Evans Charles was last seen on Friday 25th June, 2021 before his decomposed body was discovered in the house five day later.
He said despite living in the same compound, sometimes it took them up to one week without seeing each other and that’s why he wasn’t concerned over his five days absence.
However, while working on the farm near his son’s house Mzee Wefila sniffed an odorous smell from the house raising suspicion that all was not well with his son.
“I went to the door and tried to push but it had been locked from inside, I rotated to the window at the back which was also locked, I tried to peep inside but it was totally dark and I couldn’t see anything,” said Wefila who later proceeded on with his work.
Later Mrs. Florence Munialo, a sister in-law to Wefila and who had been hired to plaster a newly constructed mad walled house in the compound passed near the deceased’s house and discovered flies all over.
She got concerned and alerted a neighbor who was passing on the nearby road and they jointly decided to break the door before they were shocked to find the decomposed body lying on the floor.
The body was removed by police officers from Matete station and taken to Kimbilio funeral home in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County for postmortem to establish the cause of his death as the officers launched investigations into the incident
